“We called the newborn the gantry-tyre type,” said Genma. “There is no need to install rails on the terminal ground. The advantage of the tyre-type model is that it can flexibly travel to different operating points. This means we can provide more choices for terminals especially for those narrow ones. In brief, the mobile harbour crane is well-known as its mobility and flexibility. We have optimised and maximised this highlight.”

Genma explained that several features contribute to the 20% efficiency gains, which have been assessed based on the “experiment data”.

An intelligent loading and unloading system is said to make the MHC smarter and more precise. The system can choose the optimal operation path, and carry out actions in a short time. To achieve a “smart action”, the operator only need to set buttons for the origin and destination point of the lift, meaning ease of operation and no requirement for complicated training, argued Genma.

With improved anti-sway technology equipped on the latest MHC, lifting operations are claimed to be smoother and more stable. “This also means that more time is saved and the efficiency is greatly improved and the fatigue of operators is reduced,” said Genma.

Intelligent grabbing technology means that the grab can adapt to a variety of materials, but at the same time each grab action is optimised, the company said. “It can grab the materials to the greatest extent in different working radius, fulfil the design performance, and, yes, it means more efficiency,” Genma stressed.

The company is also claiming enhanced environmental credentials, from two sides. “One side, the basic thing, is providing a shore power option for our customers,” it stated. “Our users can switch easily between diesel engine and shore power.

“The other side, the hydraulic accumulator can store energy and make the use of it. This is the totally new added function in our 3rd generation mobile harbour crane. However, we have selected a proven energy storage technology.”

Other claimed benefits include a product life assessment system. “With the product life analysis system, we can get the clear map of the equipment condition, and thus to make the maintenance plan or even estimate the equipment value.”

Finally, a multi-machine cooperative operating system in included to allow the operator to control two cranes simultaneously, both of which can be fully utilised at the maximum lifting capacity.
